Our Story

From Global Classrooms to the Huon

Before we settled on our small hobby farm in Tasmania ten years ago, our lives were a bit of a global puzzle. We spent years living and teaching in South Korea, and Qatar. We earned our MA degrees in England together. Eric taught in the USA and China and Alyssia studied in France. We loved the adventure, but once our son was born, we looked for a permanent place to settle down. We loved Tasmania as soon as we arrived.

We’ve Navigated This Path Personally

We started Ember Migration because we have personally lived the immigration life - and we know how important it is to have a helping hand.

  • Living in a Foreign Land: We lived in Seoul for over 5 years and Doha for three. We drove, had bank accounts, paid tax, managed work visas, traveled and made friends.

  • The Partner Visa: Eric (USA born) applied and received his offshore partner visa, married to Alyssia (Australian).

  • Citizenship by Descent: Our son (born in Qatar) joined us through a process we managed ourselves overseas.

  • Overseas Students: We've taught hundreds of overseas students. A solid foundation was key to their success.

  • The Reality: It is a lot of work, but we can help. We've been there before, personally and professionally.

Teachers at Heart

Our main problem in business is that we're not very good at sales!

But there's a good reason for that: we spent the first half of our careers as primary school teachers. We met while teaching at Seoul Foreign School and later moved to Qatar Academy, where our son was born.

Teaching at top international schools taught us two things that are vital in migration:

  1. Precise Admin: Managing a classroom and international curriculum requires obsessive attention to detail.

  2. The Human Connection: You can’t be a good teacher without being a good listener. We’re here to help, not to "close a deal."

Why Teachers are the
Best Agents

  1. We are Naturally Helpful: Teachers have a desire to educate and see success. Most migration agents are business people that are driven by profits. We are driven by your success.

  2. We can Say the Hard Things: Just like we’d tell a parent exactly how their child is progressing, we’ll tell you exactly where your application stands, and what your chances look like. No fluff, no false hope.

  3. We are Highly Organized: Migration is a mountain of paperwork. Fortunately, we’ve spent years perfecting the art of "admin" so you don't have to worry about a missing document.

Tassie for the Win!

We really love the "wildness" of Tasmania. The entire state has fewer than 1 million people and even in Hobart, the capital city, we still run into people we know. But it is still Australia - good roads, fast internet, solid infrastructure, free healthcare and one of the top quality of life scores on the planet.

We’ve experienced firsthand how a new chapter—whether through study, career or starting a life with a partner—can be a catalyst for a better life. Our focus is simple: we value the human connection. Whether we are reuniting a family or guiding someone toward a new career path, we are driven by the belief that everyone deserves the chance to build a bright, happy future.

We're here to change the perception.

Migration agents are often seen as "salesmen"—more interested in getting paid than being helpful. It’s why so many people try to "DIY" their applications. But in a system this complex, a single mistake can cost you your future in Australia.

We believe you deserve a middle ground: professional expertise without the corporate costs.

  • Honesty over Sales: We aren't here to sign every person who calls. If we don’t think your path will work, we’ll tell you straight—before you spend a cent.

  • Accessible Pricing: Because we work from our home office and manage everything ourselves, we don't have the massive overheads of the mainlanders. We pass those savings directly to you.

  • Education and Control: We don’t hide the process from you. As teachers, our goal is to empower you with the truth so you can sleep soundly knowing exactly where your application stands.

Why We Are Built Local

In a world of "ghost" offices and stock photos, we choose to be local

We started Ember Migration because we've always felt that the human connection is what made our travels and migration story a positive, happy experience.

Mainland agencies are not this. They are increasingly moving to AI and aggressive search engine tactics. They have a "home page" for every suburb in Australia to try to convince you they are local.

We are local. We do things differently.

Spot the Ghosts

The Virtual Office

Check their local address. Some are virtual, some don't list their address and some are actually fake.

The "Team"

Try to find their "Team" page or "About Us" page. It will either not exist or have many, many people.

The Sales Pitch

Agents will tell you what you want to hear to get your cash. Slick and polished.

The AI Model

Agency websites will have a LOT of information - all AI generated for SEO. Fake info, fake reviews.
